1602A LCD with I2C controller shows filled squares, unresponsive to commands

Customer:

I’ve soldered the I2C controller onto a 1602A display and I’m having communication issues. When I connect it, the entire top row is filled with squares and doesn’t respond to commands (see attached image). The brightness potentiometer works correctly. Any ideas what the problem might be?

I also tried connecting the display without the controller and got the same result.

Customer:

I’ve attached a smaller image.

I’m using the example from your library “HelloWorld_IIC” without any modifications.

I also tried isolating just the part that turns the backlight on/off or prints text, but no command responds.

Have you looked at this tutorial: https://e-radionica.com/hr/blog/2016/07/14/1064/

The contrast does seem too high to me. Try adjusting the potentiometer on the I2C module.

Customer:

Thanks for the help - I found the issue. It was a problem with the I2C address. Everything works correctly now!

Davide,

Sada sve radi ispravno!
