Would it be possible to directly connect a compute module like the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4?

Soldered Support:
You can connect the Inkplate10 board to the Raspberry Compute module using the UART pins on the Inkplate and peripheral mode. Every Inkplate before shipping has code for peripheral mode built in.
