Croduino Nova PulseSensor Playground examples fail to compile on Generic ESP8266 Module

Customer:

I recently received a Croduino Nova board with various sensors. I also contacted you about a tutorial for a heart rate pulse module and received the requested information from PulseSensor Playground (version. 2.5.0) – World Famous Electronics llc., which I appreciate. I’m a beginner with Croduino so some of my questions may seem basic, but I’m writing a project paper about Croduino and sensors so I’d appreciate detailed and comprehensive answers.

I’ve noticed that when I run any example from the “PulseSensor Playground” group, except “GetStartedProject”, Arduino IDE shows me an error: “// out of range exit status 1, Error compiling for board Generic ESP8266 Module”. When I switch the board to Arduino/Genuino Uno and run the code on it (using Genuino Uno, not Croduino Nova), everything works normally. The difference in the codes is in the PulseSensorPlayground library which is included in all code examples except the initial one. Can I run the other examples on the Croduino Nova board? Does Croduino Nova only work correctly when I select Board “Generic ESP8266 Module” or can I select another board to use all the codes?

My goal is to collect sensor readings and use the WiFi module on Croduino Nova to send/store that data in the IoT world. I would also ask you, since I believe you’ve done something similar countless times and you mention it on your leaflet, to send me examples of Arduino code that successfully send sensor readings via WiFi to an email or database. For example, one of my ideas was to use your sound detector module, and each time the module detects sound (for healthcare application - snoring detection) to send the reading data to a specific email address. I believe I know how to write code to read a digital pin and use an if loop to output all negative readings. However, I don’t know how to code sending the read and desired data to a desired email address myself, so I need your help.

I also tried to read QR codes from your leaflet (attached) and enter the URL for a website, but I can’t access any page. Is the leaflet perhaps older so the listed web addresses no longer exist/are not available, or did I simply fail to access them correctly?

Također sam vam se javio vezano uz tutorial vezan uz modul za mjerenje otkucaja srca - foto ( Soldered: Open-Source Electronics, Boards, Sensors & Modules – Soldered Electronics ), za što ste mi poslali tražene podatke ( PulseSensor Playground (version. 2.5.0) – World Famous Electronics llc.

Soldered Support:

You must use “Generic ESP8266 Module” and nothing else for Croduino NOVA. The error you’re getting indicates that the library is not compatible with the board. As a beginner, it won’t be easy to find where that error is and fix it, so you probably won’t be able to use that library.

Here is another example for the same sensor, without the library: Wearable Heart Beat Sensor ESP8266+Pulse Sensor : 6 Steps - Instructables

Or a library for ESP8266 and the sensor: GitHub - EnvironmentMonitor/Pulse-Sensor-ESP8266-ADC0: Remote Monitoring Aids · GitHub

Regarding sending data to the internet, this might interest you (sending to a mobile app): https://e-radionica.com/hr/blog/2018/01/25/blynk-croduino-nova-dio-13/

For an online database, by far the easiest is: http://dweet.io/

Use it together with this example of opening a web page, just change the URL to send data to the service: Soldered: Open-Source Electronics, Boards, Sensors & Modules – Soldered Electronics

Sending emails will be a bit harder due to spam filters. You would need to connect via SMTP to, for example, Google Mail and send through it. For example: ESP8266 GMail Sender : 3 Steps (with Pictures) - Instructables

Yes, unfortunately the addresses on the leaflet are no longer active. If I remember correctly, there was a tutorial for the client there (I sent you the above). For the server: https://e-radionica.com/hr/blog/2017/12/10/croduino-nova-kao-server-a-k-a-kako-spojiti-uredaje-s-croduino-nova/

And for sending data to the internet? We don’t have a tutorial for that yet, but I sent you some links. I added it to the tutorials list so my team will do it as soon as they have time.

hvala Vam na javljanju i bez brige - nema glupih pitanja.

Can Croduino Nova simultaneously collect data from multiple sensors connected via the breadboard to Croduino? For example, the sound detector module and the MQ9 gas sensor?

Is it even possible to properly connect multiple sensors via the breadboard, incorporate code for the correct functioning of multiple sensors into a single Arduino code, and can Croduino Nova technically handle the operation of multiple sensors simultaneously connected to it?

Regarding gas sensors, I have your MQ2, MQ3, MQ4, MQ7 and MQ9 sensors. The KKM tutorial covers the MQ3 gas sensor - Alcohol. Since all sensors, if I’m not mistaken, have identical pins and are identically built, is the way of connecting the sensors and the code for communication via analog/digital pins identical for all sensors, i.e., can it be used for all sensors? Do you have or have you perhaps used any other code that you are able to share/send for extended functionality of any of those gas sensors?

I also have your motion sensor and noticed that I cannot physically connect it to the breadboard using a cable due to additional components on its bottom side. If I don’t have cables with “clamps” on one end, can I connect the sensor by gluing regular cables, for example, with insulating tape to the sensor pins and connect it that way? Or do you recommend/have experience with a better solution for connecting the sensor?

I’m not entirely sure I understood the way this sensor works from your KKM. The sensor sets two beams at a certain angle and at a certain distance, and if it detects a human body passing between these two beams, it reads it? So, if I’m correct, this sensor could be used without any problem to read user movement in their own bedroom (next to the bed, for example, if a person gets up) to monitor sleepwalking in people who have difficulties with it?

Hvala Vam na odgovoru.

Vezano uz same senzore, interesiralo bi me dali CROduino Nova ima mogućnost istovremeno prikupljati podatke s više senzora spojenih preko eksperimentalne pločice na CROduino ? Npr. modul detektor zvuka ( Soldered: Open-Source Electronics, Boards, Sensors & Modules – Soldered Electronics ) i MQ9 senzor plinova ( https://e-radionica.com/hr/mq9-senzor-plinova.html ) ?

Soldered Support:

Of course, Croduino can work with countless sensors at the same time if you connect and program them well. NOVA is a microprocessor with 4MB of flash memory, runs at 48MHz, has plenty of RAM. For 8-bit microcontrollers, these are impressive numbers. So don’t worry.

Yes, that’s correct: MQ3 = all others in the MQ series. The pinout is the same and you can connect and use them the same way, you’ll just interpret the output voltage differently. Unfortunately, I personally have never worked with MQ sensors so I don’t have extra examples.

You can do it the way you proposed. You can also use cables that are made for such applications: Soldered: Open-Source Electronics, Boards, Sensors & Modules – Soldered Electronics
One end into the sensor, the other end into the breadboard.

Yes, you can use it for that. Simplified, the sensor compares two images and if there are differences between them, it detects that as movement. It works reliably with bodies that are warm (emit IR).

Original message (Croatian)

jedan kraj u senzor, drugi kraj u eksperimentalnu pločicu
