Customer:
I work in a school and we received six kits with Dasduino Connect Plus boards as part of a project. I’ve been learning to use them and have successfully connected many components that work well.
However, I’ve tried to connect the Dasduino to Bluetooth following many available video tutorials, using the Bluetooth Serial Terminal app, and I haven’t been able to get it to work. The phone simply doesn’t recognize the Dasduino board (ESP32) as a Bluetooth transmitter no matter what I try.
Is there some detail that needs to be done or known in order to make this work?

Radim u školi i dobili smo u sklopu projekta Generacija NOW šest kutija setova opreme sa Dasduino Conect plus pločicama.

Try pairing the Dasduino with your phone in the phone’s settings first, then use the Serial Bluetooth Terminal app.
The issue could also be with the phone itself. I previously had a Xiaomi phone and after a software update I couldn’t connect to any microcontroller via Bluetooth. You can try with a different phone.
If none of that works, send me the code you’re using and we can see where the problem is.

I tried following your advice to pair the phone with the Dasduino first, and also tried with a different phone, but I still couldn’t find the Bluetooth signal from the Dasduino. Here’s the code I’m using, which is from the examples that came with the BluetoothSerial library:
//This example code is in the Public Domain (or CC0 licensed, at your option.)
//By Evandro Copercini - 2018
//
//This example creates a bridge between Serial and Classical Bluetooth (SPP)
//and also demonstrate that SerialBT have the same functionalities of a normal Serial
#include "BluetoothSerial.h"
#if !defined(CONFIG_BT_ENABLED) || !defined(CONFIG_BLUEDROID_ENABLED)
#error Bluetooth is not enabled! Please run `make menuconfig` to and enable it
#endif
BluetoothSerial SerialBT;
void setup() {
Serial.begin(115200);
SerialBT.begin("ESP32test"); //Bluetooth device name
Serial.println("The device started, now you can pair it with bluetooth!");
}
void loop() {
if (Serial.available()) {
SerialBT.write(Serial.read());
}
if (SerialBT.available()) {
Serial.write(SerialBT.read());
}
delay(20);
}
The code uploads fine to Arduino IDE 2.03 and prints text to the Serial Monitor. In the video tutorials they always mention pressing a button on the ESP32 board after uploading. I tried pressing both the RESET button and another button, but nothing happened.

//This example code is in the Public Domain (or CC0 licensed, at your option.) //By Evandro Copercini - 2018 // //This example creates a bridge between Serial and Classical Bluetooth (SPP) //and also demonstrate that SerialBT have the same functionalities of a normal Serial
#include “BluetoothSerial.h”
#if !defined(CONFIG_BT_ENABLED) || !defined(CONFIG_BLUEDROID_ENABLED) #error Bluetooth is not enabled! Please run make menuconfig to and enable it #endif
BluetoothSerial SerialBT;
void setup() { Serial.begin(115200); SerialBT.begin(“ESP32test”); //Bluetooth device name Serial.println(“The device started, now you can pair it with bluetooth!”); }
void loop() { if (Serial.available()) { SerialBT.write(Serial.read()); } if (SerialBT.available()) { Serial.write(SerialBT.read()); } delay(20); }
Ja sam probao pritisnuti i tipku RESET i tipku RESET međutim nema rezultata.

Pogrešno napisao u prethodnoj poruci. Probao sam pritisnuti tipku RESET i tipku USER. Isprika.

Try changing the board in Arduino IDE to “ESP32 Wroover”. It might be an error in our board definition.
If you don’t have the ESP32 boards installed, there’s a short tutorial here.
Let us know if that works so we can fix the error in our board definition.

Customer:
It’s working now. After I installed and selected the ESP32 Wrover Module board in Arduino IDE, the phone and the Serial Bluetooth Terminal app now recognize the Dasduino (ESP32) and I can send messages to the Serial Monitor from the phone.
I’m planning to use this in some school projects where I previously used the Blynk app with Wi-Fi. Now I want to try controlling servo motors via Bluetooth instead. I’ve 3D printed robot arms where I used Blynk sliders or joysticks, and I’ll see if I can make them work with a Bluetooth app instead.
One last question: for other projects where I don’t use Bluetooth, should I select the Dasduino Connect Plus board or the ESP32 Wrover board in Arduino IDE?
Thank you again.

E sad radi.
Još jednom hvala i srdačan pozdrav.

I’m glad you managed to solve it.
Everything should work with the Dasduino Connect Plus board in Arduino, but it looks like there’s a bug that we’ll try to fix soon. Actually there shouldn’t be much difference between the boards in Arduino since the Dasduino contains an ESP module and we just added some extras to make it easier to use. We don’t know of any other bugs at the moment, so everything else should work with the Dasduino board, but if it doesn’t work, you can always try it this way.
