Dasduino LITE MG995 servo not moving when powered

Customer:

I’m planning a project to make an automatically opening box and would like your help and opinion.

Something like this: Automatically Opening / Closing a Box With a Linear Actuator and Arduino : 5 Steps (with Pictures) - Instructables

My project would consist of a similar box with an LCD display mounted on top, 2 buttons, and potentially several LEDs, with the controller on the inside along with the motor. I’m considering this component configuration and would like help:

1x LED display – 000061 or another you recommend (333100)

1x motor – 109042 or 101246 – it needs to open the box, I assume choosing the first one gives me the add-ons needed for such movements?

1x controller – 333225 – I think Dasduino LITE (ATTiny1604) will be sufficient – with male header – and I’m curious how long the USB-C cable is?

1x power supply – 100717

5x LED diodes – 100105 (do I need a special voltage regulator to light a specific color – given that the voltages are lower, or does the controller have this capability?)

2x buttons – 101111

If I forgot something, please suggest it.

imam u planu napraviti projektić za otvaranje kutijice i molio bih za Vašu pomoć / mišljenje.

Nešto na foru ovoga:

Automatically Opening / Closing a Box With a Linear Actuator and Arduino : 5 Steps (with Pictures) - Instructables

2x tipkala – 101111

Ukoliko sma nešto zaboravio, molim sugestiju.

Soldered Support:

For the LCD, I recommend using one that can be controlled over an easyC cable instead: 16x2 I2C LCD Display White on Blue - Qwiic Compatible – Soldered Electronics or for a more compact screen, this one. I recommend the MG995 Servo because it’s stronger, and yes, it comes with those add-ons. It can be driven directly with the Dasduino. Dasduino LITE is great for this application and has an easyC connector so the LCD or OLED can be easily connected. The USB-C cable that comes with the Dasduino is ~1m. The power supply is fine. The LED diodes are okay, but you need to put a resistor of about 300 ohms on the anode lead for each one to limit the current. Here’s a short article on how to connect “common anode RGB LED”: Arduino RGB LED Guide: Easy Setup and Code Examples The buttons are fine.

The Dasduino can be programmed and then powered only via USB-C power, opening and closing the box. Just preferably use a box that isn’t too heavy so the servo can open and close it easily.

Customer:

One more thing - as far as I can see, the motor can go directly to the controller, I don’t need any kind of driver, is that right?

Original message (Croatian)

I još jedna stvar,
Hvala.

Soldered Support:

Yes, that’s correct. For the motor, no driver is needed, just the Servo software library that comes with Arduino. Here’s the cable for connecting between Dasduino and OLED: https://soldered.com/product/easyc-cable-10cm/ (there are also cables of other lengths)

If you want, you can also solder the pins of Dasduino LITE that are for I2C and that OLED for an even better connection (the pinout of Dasduino LITE is on the product page).

Original message (Croatian)

Customer:

I’ve started the project and run into a problem. While testing the MG995 servo drive (without load, just to turn it), I’ve hit a dead end and don’t know what to do, so I’m asking for help. I basically used the example code (in a text file, I commented out my attempts), but when I download the project to the Dasduino nothing happens. When I reset the power, I hear the motor start to work, but no movement is visible. I connected the red wire to VCC, brown to GND, and orange to PA6. Is it possible that it’s not getting enough current to start so the Dasduino (Lite) shuts down to avoid damage? I tried measuring the voltage between VCC and GND and it shows 4.85V, and when it powers on I don’t see any drop since I have a regular multimeter. I’m guessing the solution is to have separate power for the motor?

Original message (Croatian)

Soldered Support:

There shouldn’t be a problem. I think it’s an issue with pin naming. Can you write out PA6?

I just tested compiling a test sketch like this and it worked:

Original message (Croatian)
