HX711 Load-cell amplifier RATE pin configuration for 80 SPS

Customer:

I have a Load-cell amplifier HX711 board and I’m wondering how to change the sampling rate to 80 SPS (as advertised). The current 10 SPS is too low for my application.

Soldered Support:

The HX711 breakout supports only 10 Hz or 80 Hz sample rates, selected via the RATE pin (pin 15) — LOW for 10 Hz, HIGH for 80 Hz. This is hardware-controlled only; it’s not changeable via software. On our breakout board, the RATE pin is fixed to GND, so the sample rate is locked.

If you’re willing to modify the breakout board, you can connect the RATE pin (pin 15) to DVDD (pin 16) to set it HIGH and enable 80 Hz mode. DVDD is the chip’s internal regulated digital supply (usually around 3.3V). This will require soldering.

Customer:

I will rewire the RATE pin. Can I wire this pin to VCC (5V) or does it have to be 3.3V?

Soldered Support:

You should connect the RATE pin to VCC, which is your logic “1” on the board. Note that the rate pin is currently connected on the PCB, so you’ll need to carefully remove that connection first. If you don’t, you’ll short GND to VCC, which you want to avoid.
