Inkplate 10 battery options and charging behavior

Customer:

Is the Li-ion 3.7V battery the only type for the Inkplate 10? Would a AA or AAA battery holder fit?

Soldered Support:

An AA or AAA battery holder can be attached externally to the case but won’t fit exactly inside it.

The Inkplate 10 case has a slot made specifically for a 3.7V li-ion battery. There is additional room, but an AA or AAA battery holder will not fit exactly in the available space. Additionally, these batteries would not be rechargeable, and they may even get damaged once Inkplate is connected via USB because the battery circuit will attempt to charge them. We recommend only using 3.7V li-ion batteries with protection.

Customer:

If I understand correctly, when the Li-ion battery is connected to the Inkplate, it recharges through the device when it’s powered (through USB-C, for instance)?

Soldered Support:

That is correct. The battery will automatically charge once you connect USB-C to the Inkplate, and it will be used as a power source when USB-C is not connected.

When connecting the battery, mind the polarity carefully and ensure it’s a li-ion 3.7V with protection and a JST two-wire connector. These batteries are common—just be careful to observe the correct polarity.
