I brought out my Inkplate 10 after not using it for a while. It had the original program in EEPROM and ran a modified weather example sketch successfully. When I tried to upload other Inkplate 10 sketches, the Arduino IDE could not access the serial port. I discovered I had the old Inkplate 1.0.1 board definition installed. After upgrading to the new Soldered Inkplate board definition version 3.0.1, I was able to upload sketches. However, while the ESP32 is running and print messages appear on the serial port, the display does not update. It still shows the original “welcome to Wol Inkplate 10 weather example!” and will not display any of the Inkplate 10 examples or bitmaps.
The serial port output states: “Wavefrom load failed! Upload new waveform in EEPROM. Using default waveform”. I uploaded the Inkplate10_Wavefrom_EPROM_Programming sketch to fix this, but it would not display the greyscale image. When I type 1, 2, 3 or 4 on the console no greyscale image appears. Even entering 2 then OK to write the new waveform did not help.
Why did the update to board definition 3.0.1 break the display?

Soldered Support:
Based on your description, you likely have an older version of Inkplate 10 on the blue PCB. There are fundamental differences between that version and the new version. The older PCB versions are called “e-radionica Inkplate 10” while the new ones are called “Soldered Inkplate 10”. The differences required different board definitions.
To confirm which version you have, check this guide which covers GPIO expander differences: Inkplate Arduino — Inkplate docs documentation
Try using the e-radionica board definition and run the basic black-white example from \examples\Inkplate10\Basic\Inkplate10_Black_And_White - this should compile, upload and refresh the screen regardless of WiFi or other factors.
The EEPROM_Programming sketch was a good idea but won’t update the display due to the different GPIO expander. You may need to recalibrate your display again.

I do have the older blue PCB version of Inkplate 10. I used the e-radionica Inkplate 10 board definition from the 3.0.1 library with the Inkplate10_Black_and_White sketch and tried to upload it. The console gave this error:
A fatal error occurred: Failed to connect to ESP32: No serial data received. For troubleshooting steps visit: Troubleshooting - ESP32 - — esptool latest documentation Failed uploading: uploading error: exit status 2
I even tried at lower baud rates with the same problem. The serial port works fine with both the Mac and the Inkplate 10 when using the Soldered board definition.

As a temporary fix, try installing an older version of the board definition and/or library. In the Arduino IDE library/boards manager, you can select an earlier version using the dropdown menu.
I would recommend lowering the board definition version first, since that is mainly what needs to be changed. The library can stay the same. Lower the board definition version until you can upload code successfully to the board. If there are additional errors after that, lower the library version until it works as expected.
See if using an older version allows you to upload code and update the screen.
