Inkplate 10 cannot be flashed – NetworkClient build error

Customer:

I have been trying for several hours to flash a brand-new Inkplate 10 using the Arduino IDE. Unfortunately, the build/upload process fails consistently with errors related to the ‘NetworkClient’ class.

System environment:

  • Operating system: Windows 11
  • Arduino IDE: 2.3.7

I tested multiple versions without success:

  • ESP32 board package (Espressif Systems): 2.0.14, 2.0.17, 3.3.5
  • Soldered Inkplate Boards: 2.0.0
  • Soldered Inkplate Library: 10.2.2, 9.1.0, 8.2.1, 7.0.0

Issue description:

  • The compilation fails with errors related to NetworkClient
  • The behavior is identical across all tested versions of the ESP32 core and Inkplate library
  • The board is brand new, so a hardware defect seems unlikely

Could you please let me know:

  1. Which exact combination of Arduino IDE, ESP32 core, and Inkplate library is currently recommended or officially tested for the Inkplate 10?
  2. Whether there are any known incompatibilities between newer ESP32 cores and the Inkplate library, especially regarding ‘NetworkClient’?
  3. Whether there are any additional configuration steps or dependencies required that might not be clearly documented?

Soldered Support:

The “Soldered Inkplate Boards” board definition you are using is made for a currently unreleased Inkplate library restructuring, which doesn’t work with the current release of the library. There are two options:

  1. You can use the current release of the Inkplate library with the board definition available here: GitHub - SolderedElectronics/Dasduino-Board-Definitions-for-Arduino-IDE · GitHub

  2. You can use the board definition you are currently using, but with the library defined here: GitHub - SolderedElectronics/Inkplate-Arduino-library at inkplate-library-restructure · GitHub – I would recommend this only if you require features of the newer releases of the esp32-arduino core, as this library version is still currently in development and doesn’t have examples written for it yet.
