Customer:
I previously had issues installing the board core on my desktop. I tried on my laptop and was able to install the board core, but then encountered this error when trying to upload:
fatal error occurred: Failed to connect to ESP32: No serial data received.
For troubleshooting steps visit: Troubleshooting - ESP32 - — esptool latest documentation
Failed uploading: uploading error: exit status 2

Soldered Support:
First, check that Inkplate is powered on. The blue power LED should be lit when the device is functional - you can see it even through the enclosure if your Inkplate is in one.
If the LED is on, this appears to be a software installation issue. Try reinstalling the board definitions by clearing the Arduino cache folder:
Step 1: Close the Arduino IDE before proceeding.
Step 2: Locate the Arduino Cache Folder
Windows:
- Open File Explorer
- Navigate to C:\Users[user]\AppData\Local\Arduino15\ for Arduino IDE 1.x or C:\Users[user]\AppData\Local\Arduino\ for Arduino IDE 2.x
- If AppData is hidden, click the “View” tab in File Explorer and check “Hidden items”
macOS:
- Open Finder
- Press Cmd + Shift + G to open “Go to Folder”
- Enter ~/Library/Arduino15/ for Arduino IDE 1.x or ~/Library/Arduino/ for Arduino IDE 2.x and click “Go”
Linux:
- Open your file manager
- Navigate to /home/[username]/.arduino15/ for Arduino IDE 1.x or /home/[username]/.arduino/ for Arduino IDE 2.x
- The folder may be hidden; press Ctrl + H to show hidden files
Step 3: Delete the Cache Folder
- Right-click the folder and select Delete, or drag it to Recycle Bin/Trash
After clearing the cache, install Arduino 1.8 legacy, which has proven most stable for Inkplate boards. Download it from: https://www.arduino.cc/en/software/OldSoftwareReleases/
Then reinstall the Inkplate board definitions and try uploading the basic black and white example.
