Inkplate 10 maximum bit-depth for grayscale images

Customer:

I see in code examples that 3-bit grayscale mode is available [display.setDisplayMode(INKPLATE_3BIT);]. Is a higher bit depth available for the Inkplate 10? I photograph in B&W film (35mm and medium format 120) and would like the highest quality image display.

Soldered Support:

3-bit is the highest bit depth for Inkplate 10. However, you should see how good it looks with dithering. When displaying images with the drawImage function you can enable dithering: Inkplate 10 – Draw image from web | Soldered Documentation

While it wouldn’t be perfect and you could see artifacts up close, dithering gets quite close to a printed photo.

Note that Inkplate 6 MOTION has 4-bit grayscale, which is better, if you want to check that model out as well.
