Inkplate 10 WiFi reception and ESP32-WROVER antenna options

Customer:

I have an Inkplate 10 with an enclosure and battery, and I’m experiencing poor WiFi connectivity. I was only able to get it working by setting up another router closer to it.

Looking at the documentation for the ESP32-WROVER-E chip on the board, I noticed there’s an ESP32-WROVER-IE version that is identical except it has an external antenna connector. I would prefer a board with the external antenna connector version or with an antenna already attached. I’m considering purchasing another Inkplate 10, but the reception issue will prevent me from using it where I want to.

Soldered Support:

The Inkplate 10 uses the ESP32-WROVER-E variant with a PCB antenna. The Inkplate 2 uses the ESP32-WROVER-IE version with an external antenna because the position of the ESP32 on that board is not optimal. The Inkplate 10 should not have WiFi issues in normal circumstances.

If you have the tools for it, it is possible to modify the board by changing the position of a resistor on the ESP32-WROVER-E and adding an IPX connector. Let me know if you would like instructions on how to do this.
