Inkplate 2 freezes during drawing, only recovers after battery disconnect

Customer:

I’ve been running the Daily Weather Station example on my Inkplate 2 without issues for a couple of months, but recently the device freezes. The Serial Monitor shows the “Drawing on screen …” line but the screen won’t refresh or show new content. Even pressing the reset button doesn’t help. The only solution is to disconnect and reconnect the battery, after which everything works perfectly again. I’m using Arduino Inkplate library version 8.2.1.

Soldered Support:

Try charging the battery for a long time to make sure it’s completely full, because if it’s not fully charged, the screen won’t be able to initialize properly.

Also try re-connecting the flat cable of the Inkplate 2. We have heard of cases where this flat connector just needed to be re-connected to fix things.

To reconnect the flat cable:

  1. Un-attach the latches which hold the flat cable
  2. Pull out the flat cable in the same direction
  3. Re-attach it inside the connector making sure it’s all the way inside
  4. Pull down the latches to secure the cable

Be careful as the cable is sensitive to creasing and is delicate, but it can be safely re-connected. After doing this, flash the sketch again with your openWeather and WiFi credentials and test it.
