Customer:
I just received an Inkplate 2 unit. When I try to upload code to it, I systematically get “Hard resetting via RTS pin…” errors. I’ve followed the setup instructions, installed the drivers and IDE, and verified my configuration appears correct, but I cannot upload anything to the device. Even the boilerplate examples fail. Is the unit defective?

Soldered Support:
The “Hard resetting via RTS pin” message actually indicates that code upload was successful.
Try this basic code for Inkplate 2:
#include "Inkplate.h"
Inkplate inkplate;
void setup() {
inkplate.begin();
inkplate.setTextSize(2);
inkplate.setTextColor(1);
inkplate.setCursor(20, 20);
inkplate.print("Hello world!");
inkplate.display();
}
void loop() {
}
This should refresh the display on Inkplate 2. If the display still doesn’t refresh, try reconnecting the flat cable that connects the e-paper to the board:
- Disconnect Inkplate 2 completely.
- Dethatch the flat cable holder by gently pulling on the catch/release mechanism on both sides, one at a time, in the noted direction.
- Take the flat cable out, keeping in mind to bend it as little as possible.
- Connect it back together and secure with the mechanism. Make sure the connection is solid.
- Try uploading the Black White Red example.
The example should change the screen.
