Customer:
The EPD specifications list 4-bit grayscale, but the software implementation appears to be 3-bit. Is there a reason for this discrepancy?

Soldered Support:
The implementation for all Inkplate boards is 3-bit grayscale. Can you point out where you found the 4-bit specification?
Customer:
I’ve confirmed that 3-bit is correct in the Inkplate documentation. However, the hardware specifications in the e-paper datasheet state 4-bit grayscale. So the e-paper hardware itself supports 4-bit, but the software implementation is limited to 3-bit, correct? I’m also curious whether there are any plans to support 300dpi and 4-bit grayscale in the future.
Soldered Support:
You’re correct. Although the e-paper supports 4-bit, the Inkplate driver board does not support 4-bit output. The newest generation, Inkplate 6 MOTION, does support 4-bit grayscale with approximately 220 DPI, which approaches 300 DPI.
