Inkplate 6 FLICK touchscreen support in ESPHome

Customer:

I recently got an Inkplate 6 FLICK and was trying to integrate it using ESPHome. I got the screen and backlight working quite well with the existing 6-plus model integration after making alterations for the different GPIO expanders.

However, the touchscreen is proving much more difficult. I’m guessing this is a TMA340 chip, which currently isn’t supported in ESPHome. I can only find the Arduino repository with code that interacts with the Cypress chip.

I’m currently trying to translate the Arduino library to ESPHome. Does anyone know of a better way, or have experience interfacing with that chip?

Soldered Support:

You’re on the right track - the touchscreen isn’t implemented officially yet in ESPHome for Inkplate 6 FLICK. The touchscreen driver is here: https://github.com/SolderedElectronics/Inkplate-Arduino-library/blob/master/src/include/TouchCypress.cpp

Check the .h files in the same folder for the touchscreen driver.

We are looking into making official ESPHome ports during this year as we work to improve Inkplate projects and documentation, but we can’t promise exactly when it will be done.
