Inkplate 6 KiCad project files and battery safety

Customer:

I’ve bought several Inkplate 6 boards and they work great. For a specific project, I need to modify the board by removing some components (the SD-card slot, the IO Expander 1) and adding a couple of LEDs. I see you provide Gerber files, but is it possible to get the KiCad project file itself so I can edit the schematics and make these adjustments?

Also, one of my Inkplate 6 units developed a battery that grew to about double its original thickness while sitting unused. I’m concerned about fire risk. Can you recommend safe battery alternatives? I’m considering:

a) Disposable or rechargeable AAA batteries connected in parallel to provide the necessary voltage and amperage (no coin cell batteries)

b) Another type of rechargeable battery that doesn’t pose a fire risk

High energy density would be nice but isn’t essential if a safer alternative has adequate capacity.

Soldered Support:

Regarding the battery: The battery on that device is defective - that should not happen. We can send you a replacement battery. Keeping good battery health is important and we’re working on documentation about battery care.

As for the KiCad files, check this repository: GitHub - SolderedElectronics/Soldered-Inkplate-6-hardware-design: Hardware design, BOM, gerbers and 3D files for Soldered-Inkplate-6 designed by Soldered Electronics. · GitHub

It has the KiCad projects in the CAD folders by versions.
