Customer:
I’ve connected a third-party Li-Ion battery to the Inkplate 6. The MCP73831 supports 4.2V, 4.35V, 4.4V and 4.5V charging voltages, and 4.2V should be used for this battery. However, when I measure the voltage while charging, it rises above 4.2V without stopping. Do I need to configure the charging voltage in software?

Soldered Support:
The Inkplate 6 is configured for 4.2V charging. This voltage setting is determined by the MCP73831 IC model and cannot be changed with software.
For reference, the official Li-Ion battery shipped with Inkplate charges to approximately 4.0V, which is safe and below the 4.2V maximum. Since your third-party battery is not one we test, I cannot guarantee it will work correctly with the Inkplate 6. Li-Ion batteries of the same nominal voltage with similar protection circuits generally work in a plug-and-play fashion, but use it at your own risk. Try charging it and monitor how it behaves.
