Inkplate 6COLOR & Li-Ion Battery 3.7V

Hi,

I’m planning to power my Inkplate 6COLOR with the 5000mAh or 10000mAh 3.7V Li-Ion battery from your store (JST-PH 2mm, same connector as the standard 1200mAh option) instead of the bundled 1200mAh battery, to maximize runtime for a wall-mounted HA dashboard that will be hard to access for recharging.

A few questions:

Is the onboard MCP73831 charge current fixed by a resistor value tuned for the 1200mAh battery, or is it safe/appropriate to charge a much larger 5000mAh or 10000mAh cell at that same current?
What is the actual charge current (in mA) set on the Inkplate 6COLOR’s board?
Are there any physical/mechanical constraints (enclosure clearance, connector strain) I should be aware of when using a battery this much larger than the stock one (100 x 60 x 11mm vs the stock battery’s dimensions)?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

The charging current on the Inkplate is 300 mA, and it does not depend on the battery you connect.

As for mechanical limitations, there are some. You need to keep in mind the thickness of the battery so the enclosure can still close, as well as the outline dimensions of the enclosure.

Best regards,
Andrej
