Inkplate6 display replacement procedure

Customer:

The display on my Inkplate6 was damaged. I see that replacement components are available, is it possible to remove the display from the Inkplate6 board and put on a new one? Is the connector glued down? And how is the display itself attached to the display side of the board? If it’s glue, will it loosen with heat?

Soldered Support:

You can replace the ePaper display on Inkplate6. The compatible ePaper is ED060SC7.

The connector is magnetic and should just pop out with a gentle pull. The ePaper is attached to the PCB with strong double-sided tape. Heat will help remove the ePaper from the PCB - you could use a hair dryer and apply heat. The ePaper might snap when pulling it off, but as it’s being replaced that shouldn’t be a problem. Make sure you detach the connector before pulling off the ePaper.

Then remove the double-sided tape residue and add the new ePaper via the connector. The connector itself is not glued down - it’s magnetic.

To attach the new ePaper, you can use double-sided tape as well.

If there are contrast issues with the display after replacement, let me know and I can help you fine-tune that.
