Load cell module SKU 108320 for 0.1-1g accuracy weighing scale

Customer:

I’m building a weighing scale and researching load cell options. The product page for SKU 108320 (load cell module high precision 2 kg) states it “incorporates two invariable two variable resistors connected to the Wheatstone Bridge.”

I understand there are quarter, half, and full Wheatstone bridge arrangements. I need a full bridge arrangement for my application. My goal is to measure changes with accuracy of 0.1 g – 1 g. Does this product meet my requirements?

Soldered Support:

The load cell module you’re referencing is a half-bridge load cell. It contains two active strain gauges (variable resistors) and two fixed resistors, forming a half Wheatstone bridge, not a full bridge by itself.

For your use case I would recommend a load cell module with a smaller range. A measuring range that small can be subject to a lot of noise, even with a solid load cell amplifier such as the HX711. It’s better to go with a 1 kg or even 500 g load cell.

Customer:

My goal is to measure objects’ daily mass fluctuation while stored on the scale. The greater the starting mass, the greater the fluctuation. For example: 0.5 kg has 15–25 g fluctuation, and 2 kg has 40–70 g fluctuation.

I also need an e-paper display with the least power consumption, as my project is battery powered. For prototyping, the e-paper should have resolution sufficient to display 7 lines of text.

Lastly, if my prototyping is successful, are you the right business partner if I’m starting to mass produce this?

Soldered Support:

Regarding e-paper solutions, our panels are mostly high resolution. There is the Inkplate 2, which has a 212x104 Black/White/Red display with a refresh time of around 15 s. If you need a high refresh screen with the least power consumption in deep sleep, we have the Inkplate 5V2 with a 1280x720 resolution panel and a fast refresh update that takes 0.26 s.

Regarding mass production, I will forward this conversation to a colleague with whom you can discuss it in detail.
