MCP23017 Missing on Inkplate 6 Plus

Customer:

I noticed the MCP23017 chip is missing. I very much need the additional GPIOs. If I purchase the chip and solder it on myself, will that enable those pins on my Inkplate or is there another barrier that will prevent them from working?

Soldered Support:

If you solder on the GPIO expander where it needs to go, it should work properly. All the components are there both in hardware and software. Just be careful not to burn the ePaper from the other side.
