MQ131 Breakout Sensor with EasyC output units and calibration

Customer:

I can’t find the documentation for the MQ131 Breakout Sensor with EasyC. What are the units output by the sensor? Does it need to be calibrated and if so how do I do that?

Soldered Support:

An example for this sensor was missing in the MQ library at GitHub - SolderedElectronics/Soldered-MQ-Gas-Sensor-Arduino-Library: Library for all MQ sensor Soldered Boards. · GitHub, but you can get the sensor working via that library even without an example.

An example for MQ131 easyC has been added: https://github.com/SolderedElectronics/Soldered-MQ-Gas-Sensor-Arduino-Library/blob/dev/examples/easyC/MQ-131-ALL-easyC/MQ-131-ALL-easyC.ino

Based on the library documentation, the readings should be in PPM but they seem too high for ozone, so they’re likely PPB instead. The sensor does react to environmental changes.

If the sensor is measuring a really low concentration it will have a lot of noise and limited ability to read the values. Try reading the ozone values outside and comparing them with a separate device or public database to see the exact ozone value in PPM or PPB, then calculate a multiplication factor to apply to the sensor - it should be proportional.
