Customer:
I’m interested in the PCB breadboard/protoboard. I’d like to know the maximum current the connections can handle without additional reinforcement by soldering copper wire. Alternatively, the thickness of the copper layer would help me estimate the current capacity.
I found a trace width calculator (Simplify PCB Design with Our Trace Width Calculator | AdvancedPCB) which suggests that for a 10mm long trace, 1 oz/ft² copper, 50 degree Celsius temperature rise, 5 amperes would require 1.04mm wide trace in air. From the product pictures, the trace width appears to be around 1.2mm, which would suggest 5 amperes might work. However, I’m uncertain about the copper layer thickness - I don’t know if it’s 1 oz/ft² (which equals 35 micrometers / 1.4 mils).
