Customer:
I have a WS2812D RGB LED and a common anode RGB LED, but I’ve mixed them up. How can I tell which is which? I understand the difference between common anode and common cathode, and I can identify regular RGB LEDs, but I can’t tell the WS2812D apart from the common anode RGB LED - they both seem to work the same way to me.

Soldered Support:
You can distinguish WS2812D LEDs from ordinary RGB LEDs by looking at the plastic lens: WS2812D LEDs have a frosted or cloudy appearance where you cannot see through the lens clearly, whereas regular RGB LEDs are typically transparent. It’s important to keep electronic components organized so they don’t get mixed up, since two components can look very similar but work very differently.
As additional context: WS2812D LEDs are intelligent addressable LEDs that require control via a microcontroller using a WS2812 library like Adafruit_NeoPixel (GitHub - adafruit/Adafruit_NeoPixel: Arduino library for controlling single-wire LED pixels (NeoPixel, WS2812, etc.) · GitHub). They have 4 pins: VDD (power, 5V), VSS (ground), DIN (data input), and DOUT (data output). In contrast, common anode RGB LEDs are traditional three-color LEDs that require direct pin control without a library.
