Bible reader application on Inkplate 6PLUS with touch navigation

Customer:

I’m interested in creating a Bible reader application using the Inkplate 6PLUS. The reader would allow selecting a book, chapter, and reading the chapter text. Search and bookmark functionality would be a bonus. The touch screen would be useful for scrolling through text and moving between chapters and books, which is important for usability when reading a large text like the Bible.

I have a few questions:

  1. Regarding font legibility: the comparison image on your site (https://www.crowdsupply.com/img/3c10/res-comparison.jpg) shows Inkplate 6 on the left and Inkplate 6PLUS on the right. The text appears smoother on the left and more jagged on the right. Is this correct, or is it just the font used?

  2. Does a battery and case come included? If not, what would you suggest for this application?

  3. Most importantly, is this project feasible? I want an e-ink reader with one or more pre-loaded texts (potentially bilingual) with touch screen navigation between books and chapters. I don’t see many examples in your documentation for this use case. If successful, this would be used in a non-profit faith-based effort to distribute devices.

My background is primarily in Java, which doesn’t appear to be supported, but I’m willing to learn other languages. I’m also aware of Oracle GraalVM for compiling Java/JavaFX to Linux executables, though I’m unsure if it would work on your device.

I’m looking for a partner to share knowledge and get input on this project.

Your project is interesting, but it will require extra programming work.

The comparison photo shows that Inkplate 6PLUS has larger pixel density compared to older Inkplates, so the clarity is better on the 6PLUS. The battery is not included due to shipping considerations. A case is available separately.

Inkplate cannot run Java-related code. However, there is already an e-book implementation for Inkplate that could be the perfect starting point. With just a few modifications, you should be able to accomplish your goals:
