Dasduino software serial on GPIO pins for dual RS232 communication

Customer:

Does a Dasduino board exist with two serial ports? I’m trying to connect device A which sends data on a serial port - a Dasduino/Arduino should receive that data and send only a portion of it to a second serial port connected to device B. Do you know if there’s a better solution for this?

Original message (Croatian)

HVALA

You can do this with the board you already have. You can use SoftwareSerial - it sends the same messages as Serial, but the processor handles everything ‘manually’ and can work on almost any pins. See: https://docs.arduino.cc/learn/built-in-libraries/software-serial

It’s a good enough solution in terms of speed and reliability if you only need to send simple data occasionally, as you want to send to device B. The advantage is it gives you flexibility with pin selection.

Customer:

Which pins on the Dasduino should I connect RS232 to? If I understood correctly, I can use any GPIO pin - the labels on the board like PA2, PA1, etc. - how do I define them in code for SoftwareSerial.h? SoftwareSerial RS232Serial(16, 17); - which pins/numbers do I need to put here?

Original message (Croatian)

Soldered Support:

I checked - if you use the literal pin name within Arduino, it should work. Here’s how the #define values look for this Dasduino:

So if you want software serial on PA3 and PA4 for example, it would be:
SoftwareSerial RS232Serial(PA3, PA4);

It should work - let me know the results and we can troubleshoot if needed.

RS232Serial(PA3, PA4);
