Dasduino upload failing with Arduino IDE

Customer:

I have questions about Dasduino and the Croduino board schematic you sent me.

For Dasduino: I tried what you mentioned in your previous message, but Dasduino still doesn’t work.

For the Croduino schematic: You sent it to me in PDF format. I downloaded KiCad and experimented a bit, watched some YouTube tutorials on schematic design, and created something. But I still don’t understand how it works there and how I can convert the schematic from PDF. I know I can trace it, but it’s not clear to me how that functions. I can read a schematic and understand what each component is, but I don’t know how to actually create one.

imam pitanje u vezi Dasduina i sheme Croduino pločice koju ste mi poslali.

Can you send more information about what exactly isn’t working? Are you getting an error when compiling the code before uploading, or during the upload itself to Dasduino? What does Arduino IDE show you (in red text)? You can just copy and paste that message here.

Regarding KiCad: it’s a program that requires more detailed study over a longer period, and it’s difficult to convey instructions via email like this. I suggest you continue watching KiCad tutorials and start by creating very basic boards (for example, a breakout board for just an LED and resistor), and gradually work your way toward more advanced designs.

Your code looks OK. That error means Arduino IDE for some reason isn’t sure which tool it should use to transfer your code to the board. This error happened to me too when I recently used VSCode, but uploading through Arduino IDE always worked for me.

I have an idea: did you install the CH340 drivers? It’s basically a helper program that allows your computer to communicate with various devices over USB. You might be missing this. Here’s a link where you can download those drivers and just install them (I believe if you’ve installed Arduino, this shouldn’t be a problem for you either): https://sparks.gogo.co.nz/assets/_site_/downloads/CH34x_Install_Windows_v3_4.zip

Try again then. If that doesn’t work, try an older version of Arduino IDE. I’m not sure which version you’re using now (I assume 2): https://www.arduino.cc/en/software/OldSoftwareReleases

On this link, download 1.8.18 and install it, then try with that (you’ll need to add the Dasduino board definition again, also in settings).

If it still doesn’t work after that, send me a screenshot of your ‘Tools’ menu in that older Arduino version, and we’ll see if there’s a configuration problem.

Imam ideju, jesi li instalirao CH340 drivere?

Soldered Support:

You must first add this link in “additional board manager url’s” in the “settings” menu: GitHub - SolderedElectronics/Dasduino-Board-Definitions-for-Arduino-IDE · GitHub

Here’s where that’s located in the older Arduino version:

After that, go to tools > boards > board manager, and in that window type “Dasduino” and find the board you need. I’m not sure which one you have, so best just type “Dasduino” and install Dasduino AVR boards. Then you’ll be able to select it during upload.

Nisam siguran koju imaš, najbolje upiši “Dasduino” i instaliraj Dasduino AVR boards. Onda ćeš ju moći odabrati pri uploadu.
