Gold-plated Soil Sensor oxidation resistance and measurement method

Customer:

I’m working on a smart irrigation project and considering the Gold-plated Soil Sensor. What is the approximate service life when used in soil with fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides? How does the sensor work and what do I need to measure it?

The sensor measures the electrical resistance or voltage drop between the two prongs, so you need a microcontroller of some sorts to measure and then send that data. It’s gold plated so it should be oxidation-proof but we don’t have any specific data on how long exactly it would last. My estimate would be at least a year, if used correctly (only stick the gold part in the ground, leaving the top part dry at all times).
