Inkplate 10 battery not powering device, readBattery() returns incorrect values

Customer:

I have a battery connected to my Inkplate 10 with a two-pin connector. After reversing the cable to correct the polarity, I left the battery connected with the Inkplate plugged in via USB-C for hours. The moment I disconnect the USB-C power, the Inkplate immediately powers off. The battery has never successfully powered the device. When the battery is connected, the display.readBattery() function reads around 2.5 to 2.7. When I disconnect the battery, it prints 5.79. Is my Inkplate defective? What else should I try?

Soldered Support:

Have you tried measuring the battery with a multimeter? Does the red charging LED light up when you connect the battery? Try to solder the battery on the Inkplate, maybe the problem is in the connector.
