Inkplate 10 not appearing as COM port in Arduino IDE after MicroPython

Customer:

The device is not showing up when I plug it in. Is there something I need to flash in order to see the device in the Arduino IDE? I had used MicroPython with the device in the past.

Soldered Support:

The device should show up in Arduino IDE as a COM port without needing to flash anything first. Try the following:

  • A different USB C cable
  • A different USB port
  • If possible, a different computer

The USB Serial connection can sometimes break. It’s possible that your MicroPython program could be affecting it if you’re using USB Serial in your program, but this is unlikely. As a last resort, try holding down RESET and keeping it held as you plug in the device, then search for it.

Customer:

I was able to get it to work as expected on another computer (both macOS). Any idea what could have changed on my main computer for it to no longer show up as a serial port? In System Report it did register as USB Serial when plugged in, but never showed up in Arduino IDE or /dev/.

Soldered Support:

Check if you need to reinstall the drivers required to interface via Serial. You can also check the output of dmesg when you plug the board in and out to see what’s being reported:

dmesg | tail -20
