Inkplate 10 SD card not detected with multiple cards and formats

Customer:

I have an Inkplate 10 with enclosure. According to the product description, the enclosure should permit the use of all three capacitive touch pads, but I’m experiencing two issues.

First, the SD card is not detected. I’ve tried with 32 GB and 64 GB Sandisk Ultra SD cards, formatted as FAT32 with both GPT and DOS partition tables. I’ve tested with both Arduino and ESP-IDF via PlatformIO.

When uploading epub-inkplate, I get:
E (1920) vfs_fat_sdmmc: sdmmc_card_init failed (0x108).
assertion “xQueue” failed: file “/home/user/.platformio/packages/framework-espidf/components/freertos/queue.c”, line 1946, function: uxQueueMessagesWaiting
abort() was called at PC 0x401f26d4 on core 0

When uploading Inkplate_SD_TXT_File, I get:
rst:0x1 (POWERON_RESET),boot:0x12 (SPI_FAST_FLASH_BOOT)
flash read err, 1000
ets_main.c 371

Other Arduino examples (BW, Grey, partial updates, low power) work fine. The only programs that fail are those involving the SD card.

Second, the capacitive touch pads are not usable with the enclosure, which contradicts the product description. I’ve seen advice to add aluminium foil to make it work, but the enclosure should work as advertised.

Soldered Support:

The Inkplate 10 touchpads should work through the enclosure. If you open it, you will see small plastic pieces with copper tape around them. These conduct capacitance from the human body to the pads on the PCB to enable the touch pads to work. Do you have the plastic pieces with copper tape?

Adding aluminium foil is for the Inkplate 6 enclosure, which did not have plastic parts with copper inside it.

Regarding the SD card issue, we have had another report of an Inkplate 10 SD problem that was caused by a faulty SD card slot. You may have the same issue. Do you have a multimeter? If so, could you check the conductivity between the pins of the SD card slot?
