Inkplate 10 unresponsive after uploading EPub reader sketch

Customer:

I can run some examples successfully on the Inkplate, but when I try to install the EPub reader program, I get no response from the device. The forum links I used to consult are broken. Do you have suggestions on how to make the EPub reader work?

Soldered Support:

Can you confirm that you have used the active repo for the EPub reader: GitHub - turgu1/EPub-InkPlate: An EPub Reader for the ESP32 based InkPlate e-Ink devices. · GitHub

Do you get the message “Upload done” in the Arduino IDE after uploading the example?

Customer:

Yes, I used the repo for the ereader, starting with version 2.00 and continuing to 2.01. However, I do not see a message that says “Upload done”.

Soldered Support:

Which version of Inkplate do you have? “Soldered Inkplate 10” are the newer models and “e-radionica Inkplate 10” are the older models - like the ones which were originally used to write the ePub reader.

There may be some compatibility issues between those two versions for the ePub reader program.

Soldered Support:

That’s strange since it’s the same device the ePub reader was developed for. Does anything output on the Serial monitor after uploading? (baud rate is usually 152000 but try others as well)

Does the Inkplate work when uploading regular Arduino examples/sketches for it? Try uploading the example Inkplate10_Black_And_White. If it does not work after uploading or does not change the screen in any way, it could be a loose connection of the flat cable to the main board, which you can easily fix yourself. Once you get a working image on Inkplate, then try uploading the ePub reader again.

Note that since the ePub reader is software written by a third party, we can’t guarantee anything for it. I need to know if the regular Arduino examples will work on your board first.

Customer:

I am attaching videos of the example and the ePub reader.

Soldered Support:

Thank you for the videos. They confirm that Inkplate is fully functional. The upload of code is OK in both cases.

I’m unable to provide support specifically for the ePub reader sketch as it’s written by a third party. I’m glad we’ve ruled out that Inkplate has a hardware fault and that it refreshes the screen correctly.

Here are some things you could try:

  • Could the ePub reader sketch require a microSD card inserted into Inkplate?
  • Are you uploading the right version of the ePub reader for your Inkplate model?
  • Try touching one of the touchpads.
  • Does anything appear on the Serial monitor after uploading the ePub reader sketch?
  • Create a GitHub Issue for the EPub-InkPlate repository and explain your problem there.

We cannot provide support for faults in software written by others.
