Soldered Support:

Yes, the 4 cylinders on the back of the Inkplate 2 can be removed using a soldering iron. However, please proceed with extreme care, as it’s easy to damage the screen during this process.

Here are some tips:

  • The cylinders are not essential for the operation of the device, so removing them is safe from a functional perspective.
  • Use a soldering iron with a large enough tip to heat the joint properly.
  • You may need to add a bit of solder to help transfer heat more efficiently and make removal easier.
  • Once heated, the cylinders can be gently pulled off.
  • Important: Be very careful during this step — the metal gets very hot, so avoid touching it with your fingers to prevent burns.

Here’s an additional tip regarding the removal of the 4 cylinders (standoffs) on the back of the Inkplate 2.

If you don’t have a larger soldering iron tip available, you can also use a smaller tip — just insert it directly into the cylinder (standoff) and hold it there for around 15 seconds. This should transfer enough heat to loosen the part and allow you to remove it carefully.

Again, just be cautious with the heat, and avoid touching the metal directly while it’s hot.
