Customer:
I have an Inkplate 4 TEMPERA and want to display text on the E-ink screen. I’m looking for guidance on several aspects:
-
What is the quickest way to load all required code for the Inkplate 4 to start displaying text, then build further functionality from there?
-
Are there existing code examples in your knowledge base for:
a. Touch screen input to count text
b. Voice recording function that converts to text
c. Timer and different time display options, including multiple languages
d. Loading a complete Bible text into the device
I understand the Inkplate 4 uses an ESP32 processor. Is it capable of handling all these tasks? What alternative processor would you recommend for low power consumption?

Soldered Support:
The Inkplate 4 TEMPERA quick start guide is available in the documentation. You can use the Hello World example as a basic starting point: Inkplate-Arduino-library/examples/Inkplate4TEMPERA/Basic/Inkplate4TEMPERA_Hello_World/Inkplate4TEMPERA_Hello_World.ino at master · SolderedElectronics/Inkplate-Arduino-library · GitHub
Advanced functionality examples are in the Arduino library, organized by folders.
Regarding your specific questions:
Voice recording: Not possible on Inkplate 4 TEMPERA as there is no microphone peripheral, only a buzzer speaker. You would need to source and connect a microphone yourself and implement the interface.
Timer and time display: The built-in real time clock peripheral can function as a timer. You can get better results using WiFi to retrieve time data for display.
Bible text storage: You can find Bible text in .txt format and use the SD card slot to read from it. This allows you to store and access the full text offline.
Processor capability: The Inkplate 4 TEMPERA has an ESP32-WROVER-E. When you write code for the Inkplate 4 TEMPERA, you upload it to this ESP32, and the Inkplate library drives the display through your code. For low power operation, you can use deep sleep mode - see the Arduino library examples for implementation details. The documentation sidebar contains the Quick Start Guide under Inkplate > 4TEMPERA > Quick Start Guide.
