We need to modify an Inkplate 5 so it stays powered on whenever the device it’s connected to is powered on. We have soldering skills and can do the modification ourselves.

To clarify: you want the device to be always powered on when connected via USB, and if there’s a momentary power loss, it should automatically power back on?
There is an on-board jumper you can solder together to accomplish this. Which Inkplate model do you have?
Customer:
Yes, it should be on always when connected via USB, and if there’s a momentary blackout it should power back up on its own. We have the Inkplate 5 gen2.

Here’s how to do it:
It’s not technically a jumper but a 0 ohm resistor that is not placed. It works the same way though - just bridge the connection and Inkplate will be on when connected via USB.
