Customer:
I’m having problems with reading battery voltages and touch pad signals:
printf("Battery voltage:%4.2f\n",display.readBattery());
Always prints “Battery voltage:0.00”.
if (display.readTouchpad(PAD1)){
printf("Pad1 hit\n");
}
It never prints “Pad1 hit”. I assume the capacitive touch pads can be activated through the enclosure. If not I’ll need to print a new 3D enclosure and cut holes where the touch pads are.
My first problem is I can’t find a schematic for the Inkplate6Color. There aren’t any hardware documents in the GIT for the Inkplate6 Color. If the Inkplate6 Color is anything like the previous Inkplate boards then I may need to do something like the following to perform a battery reading:
#define BATVENAPIN MCP23017_PIN_B1
display.pinModeMCP(BATVENAPIN,OUTPUT);//Set pin to output.
display.digitalWriteMCP(BATVENAPIN,HIGH);//enable measure.
printf("Battery voltage:%4.2f\n",display.readBattery());
I can’t verify if I need to enable a battery voltage measurement or what pin to use. Also, a solder jumper may be necessary to enable any of these functions. I need a schematic to make these determinations.
My second problem is I can’t find a 3D printer “.stl” file for the enclosure.

Soldered Support:
Which IO expander do you have on the board? Is it PCAL6416AHF or is it MCP23017? If it is PCAL, we are currently working on the library, and if you have MCP23017 then could you check if other pads work?
You don’t need to solder any jumper for battery reading. We’ll check that example and get back to you with more details about your problem.

After printing the 3D case you sent me, I discovered that the holes for the top and bottom don’t match. The bottom is the same size as the case I received with the Inkplates (clearance for a 3mm screw). The top you sent has holes for what appears to be a 5mm screw. Could you send the top with holes for 3mm screws? I can’t add material back to the STEP files you sent me using FreeCAD - I can only remove material as the files you have sent me only contain a single solid shape. I can’t find a way to break the STEP file’s single solid into its elements in order to make the holes smaller on the case top you sent me.
Also, when will the new library supporting the PCAL6416AHF and the hardware documentation be available? I can’t program using the touch pad switches or the battery voltage until I get these items.
Soldered Support:
The top for the Inkplate case is 5mm because we are using thread inserts for that. We’re sending you a datasheet of the thread inserts we decided to use. We’re also sending you a new STEP file for the top so you can use a 3mm screw if you want to print the top again. We are working on the library right now. If everything goes right we will release it this week.
