Inkplate boards fail to install in Arduino IDE with EOF error

Customer:

I’m experiencing difficulties installing the Inkplate boards in the Arduino IDE. When I try to install the boards via the Boards Manager, I receive this error message:

"Downloading packages

Dasduino_Boards:xtensa-esp32-elf-gcc@1.22.0-96-g2852398-5.2.0

Failed to install platform: ‘Inkplate_Boards:esp32:1.0.0’.

Error: 2 UNKNOWN: Get “https://media.githubusercontent.com/media/SolderedElectronics/Dasduino-Board-Definitions-for-Arduino-IDE/master/xtensa-esp32-elf-win32-1.22.0-96-g2852398-5.2.0.zip”: EOF"

The IDE cannot download the necessary files from the provided URLs, resulting in an EOF (End of File) error. I need guidance on alternative methods to install the Inkplate boards.

Try clearing Arduino’s cache completely:

Windows: Close the Arduino IDE. Navigate to C:\Users[user]\AppData\Local\Arduino15. Delete the Arduino15 folder to clear the local cache. If you have custom libraries or boards installed, back them up first from the libraries or hardware subfolders inside your Documents/Arduino folder. Reopen the Arduino IDE and re-install necessary boards and libraries.

macOS: Close the Arduino IDE. Open Finder, then go to ~/Library/Arduino15: Press Cmd + Shift + G and enter ~/Library/Arduino15. Delete the Arduino15 folder. If you have custom libraries or boards installed, back them up first from the Documents/Arduino folder. Reopen the Arduino IDE and re-install necessary boards and libraries.

Linux: Close the Arduino IDE. Open a terminal and navigate to the Arduino cache directory:

cd ~/.arduino15

Delete the .arduino15 folder:

rm -rf ~/.arduino15

If you have custom libraries or boards installed, back them up first from the Arduino/libraries or Arduino/hardware folder in your home directory. Reopen the Arduino IDE and re-install necessary boards and libraries.

After clearing cache, open the Arduino IDE, go to Tools > Boards > Board Manager, and try to re-install Inkplate boards.

Also verify that you entered the correct link in your additional boards manager URLs window in Arduino. If this doesn’t work, we can use the ESP32 Dev Board definition which is the default board definition for ESP32 based boards - it will work with Inkplate.

I’ve tried your recommendation and deleted Arduino IDE for a clean install. However the issue still persists. When I add the link “https://github.com/SolderedElectronics/Dasduino-Board-Definitions-for-Arduino-IDE/raw/master/package_Dasduino_Boards_index.json” to Additional Boards Manager, Inkplate shows up under Board Manager search. However when I try to install any of the 8 versions listed, it gives the same error message. Is there a way to manually install it, or could we verify that the link is still working?

I found a related thread on the Arduino forums: Arduino 2.3.0 "Unexpected EOF" - #10 by ptillisch - IDE 2.x - Arduino Forum

This might be related to your internet connection. Try downloading with a different connection (mobile hotspot or different WiFi). You could also try using Arduino 1.8.x legacy version, which you can get from here: https://www.arduino.cc/en/software/OldSoftwareReleases

The board definition itself is OK - this issue is unfortunately related to Arduino as mentioned on the forum thread.
