Customer:
I purchased an Obstacle Sensor from you, but I’m having trouble with the pin labels because the markings on the board are not clearly printed. I searched online for the pinout of this model but cannot find the exact same one. Could you provide information about the pins? It’s the model with IR-08H written in the middle. What is the exact supply voltage and what is the role of the jumper?

This is the IR-08H module. Here are some tips for using it:
- Set the EN pin to GND if you want to adjust sensitivity.
- The LED lights up when an object is detected. Since everything will run on battery, the recommendation is to remove the jumper from the board.
- Try the code, but keep in mind that the normal state of the sensor is HIGH. In the code we sent, the button has a normal state of LOW.
- Be careful when searching for examples online. This sensor has HC00 logic on it; older models use NE555.
These tips are copied from a user who had similar questions. Given how frequently the same questions come up for this module, we will try to cover it in our tutorials as soon as possible.

Thank you for the quick response. I’m not entirely sure the information you gave me is sufficient. I’m interested in what the role of the enable pin is. On most similar modules online, the pinout is different. The module still doesn’t work even though I followed the instructions. What is the role of the red LED on the module? Should the IR LED perhaps be wrapped in a black cylinder, plastic?

The enable pin allows use of the potentiometer. The pins are in order:
EN - enable, allows use of the potentiometer
Vcc - +5VDC
OUT - output pin, normally HIGH
GND
Try adjusting the potentiometers to regulate sensitivity and distance. According to the datasheet, the sensor can detect objects at a distance of 2-40cm.
The red LED lights up when an object is detected.
If you want to reduce the angle of the LED, you can wrap the diode. The viewing angle for this diode is 35 degrees.
