LTR-507 light sensor for textile transmission testing requirements

Customer:

We need to test textile for light transmission. Here are our requirements:

Light sensor:

  • Measurable wavelength: Visible light 400–750 nm (firm requirement), UV-light 250–400 nm (wish)
  • Present spectrum (wish)
  • Measurement accuracy (firm, consider both minimum and maximum values)
  • Calibratable (wish)
  • Measuring range (firm): midday sun 100,000–130,000 lux, cloudy sky approx. 100–20,000 lux
  • Responsiveness < 60 s (firm)
  • Multiple measuring points adapted to sample size (wish)
  • Connection to data interface possible (wish)
  • Evaluation electronically on PC (firm)

Temperature sensor:

  • Measuring range 15°C–70°C (firm)
  • Measurement accuracy ±1°C (firm)
  • Measuring range −20°C–85°C (wish)
  • Measurement accuracy ±0.1°C (wish)
  • Responsiveness < 60 s (firm)
  • Adapted to light sensor (firm)
  • Measuring chamber temperature (firm)
  • Measuring the temperature of the textile (wish)
  • Calibratable (wish)

The LTR-507 is our most detailed light sensor. It’s based on the LTR-507 chip.

Here is a comparison of your requirements against the LTR-507 specification:

Requirement Your Specification LTR-507 Specification
Measurable Wavelength Visible light 400–750 nm (firm), UV-light 250–400 nm (wish) Close to human eye spectral response, Full Scale ADC Count: 0–65535
Present Spectrum Wish Not explicitly stated
Measurement Accuracy Firm - Consider for both minimum and maximum values Dynamic range 1: 1 lux/count, Other ranges available
Calibratable Wish Not factory-calibrated, can be adjusted via software
Measuring Range Firm - In coordination with light source, midday sun 100,000–130,000 lux, cloudy sky approx. 100–20,000 lux 1 to 64,000 lux (16-bit ADC)
Responsiveness Firm - < 60 s Typical wakeup time 10 ms, Initial startup 100 ms
Multiple Measuring Points Wish - Adapted to sample size Not natively supported
Connection to Data Interface Wish I2C Interface
Evaluation Electronically on PC Firm Requires microcontroller and software

Note: The LTR-507 is a hobbyist-grade sensor and is not factory-calibrated. To interface with this sensor, you need an EasyC cable and a Dasduino running custom code, or an Arduino with the appropriate example code. Calibration is necessary to achieve accurate readings.
