MOSFET gate voltage: can 5V Vgs be applied when Vth is 0.8-1.8V?

Customer:

I have a question about MOSFETs in general. When a transistor has Vgs and gate threshold voltage values of, for example, min 0.8V and max 1.8V, can the same transistor be used with 5V Vgs without reducing it to the ranges mentioned above?

Imam samo jedno pitanje u vezi mosfeta opcenito.Kada jedan tranzistor ima vrijednosti Vgs,gate threshold voltage-a, npr min 0.8V a max 1.8V,dali se taj isti tranzs moze koristi s 5V Vgs-om bez dodatnog smanjivanja istog napona u gornje navedene granice?

Soldered Support:

Yes, you can. The gate threshold voltage range is only the maximum possible variation you will find for that MOSFET model, and it depends on the specific silicon quality of the particular device. This means if you take two MOSFETs of the same type, one could have a gate threshold of 0.8V and another 1.8V. The maximum Vgs is listed under “Absolute Maximum Ratings” and typically is ±20V.

Sretno s projektom!
