PMS7003 Adapter fan not spinning on STM32F401RE

Customer:

I soldered the pin headers to the PMS7003 adapter and connected VCC and GND to my STM32F401RE. The fan isn’t turning on. Is this normal? Where should I go from here?

Customer:

Should I try resoldering first, or do I need to set something up in STM32CubeIDE to power the sensor? The sensor is already connecting to 5V and GND on the STM32.

Soldered Support:

It’s good that you’re powering the PMS7003 from 5V, which is its required operating voltage. The STM32 should be able to provide enough current to spin the fan.

The fan may not spin due to the sensor’s operating mode. According to the mySense repository: “For interval timings larger than sample time plus 60 seconds the sensor module will be put to passive standby (fan off) mode.” This is normal behavior.

Try reading data from the device via a library or UART. If you can reliably get data from it, everything is working correctly. The fan not spinning shouldn’t be a cause for concern.
