I have several questions about your GSM/GPRS shield. We connected it to an Arduino Mega but are not getting any response over the serial port from the shield. We tried both software and hardware serial TX/RX in various power supply combinations - using the Arduino board power or external power. The LED indicator is on. My question is whether any of the pins require additional connections to power on, reset, or something else?

imam nekoliko nedoumica oko vaseg GSM/GPRS shielda, naime “spojili” smo ga s arduino mega-om, ne dobivmo nikakav response preko serialporta s shielda, pokusali smo i softwareTXRX i hardware TXRX, također u kombinacijama napajanja s arduino plocice ili s vanjskim napajanjem, led indikator je upaljen. Moje pitanje je je li na neki od pinova potrebno dodatno spojiti power on, reset ili nesto?

The board you have is more of a breakout board than a shield, so the connections are more complicated. Let’s start with a few initial checks:
-
You must have external power and must ensure at least 2A at 5V
-
When you orient the board so the antenna is on the left, on the right side at the bottom you have many pins. These are the pins that come from the SIM900A module. You perform all connections to these pins.

There are multiple GND and AGND pins - you need to connect all of them to GND
-
Take TX and RX from the pins that are separate from that large header and connect them to serial0 on the Mega. Leave the jumpers on hardware serial

Reset needs to be connected

I’m not even sure if a power on pin exists, but definitely check the datasheet

pločica koju imate je više breakout board nego shield, pa je spajanja kompliciranije. Ajmo krenuti s par početnih provjera:
-
eksterno napajanje morate imate i morate osigurati barem 2A na 5V
-
kada pločicu okrenete tako da antena bude lijevo, s desne strane dolje imate mnogo pinova. To su pinovi koji idu s SIM900A modula. Na njih vršimo sve konekcije

ima više gnd i agnd pinova, sve ih trebate spojiti na gnd
-
tx i rx uzmite s pinova koji su više od tog velikog headera, te ih spojite na serial0 na Megi. Jumpere ostavite na hardwareSerial
-
reset treba spojiti
-
power on pin nisam ni siguran jel postoji, ali datasheet svakako pogledajte
